Sitting at the edge of Saddle Creek was a young female. Her hazel brown eyes big and sad as she pawed at the air. He was really gone, the scent of Vaughn led out of Saddle Creek and down the long road that led to lord only knows where. She couldn't believe it. Her only friend, hero, love, gone. Is my fault ... did he not want me to return? D-did he go look for the ones that harmed me? D-did he go searching for my family .. why wouldn't he atleast tell me goodbye? she thought silently to herself as she shook her head. She blamed herself for his leaving. She couldn't take this! Throwing her head back, she let out a sad howl. Then sighed. She looked down at the ground, where a tiny dusty brown cowboy hat lay. Leaning down, she slid it on and sat down. This was the only memory she had of him. A gift he had given her .. She sighed and turned her head as tears begin to drip.
"Oh Vaughn ... Why did you leave .. where did you go?.." questioned the four year old schnauzer. Stretching her injured paw, she stared at it. He was really gone .. but where did he go? Why did he leave? She sighed and lay down, shutting her depressed eyes as she hummed her self a little lullaby that her mum always use to sing to her when Amaia was sad or scared. But then, she heard a noise and lifted her head scanning the area. She didn't see anyone. Oh come on! Cant big dogs leave her be?! She didn't have a meal! She had given up trying to eat. Some big dog always came around and stole it, and you could tell it was effecting her. Her ribs were beginning to show and if it wasn't for water, shed be dead. Sighing, she decided to ignore it and begin to hum again, until she heard the noise. Again. "P-p-please leave me al-alone... I-I have nothing" she whimpered.

Eclipse felt as gleeful as ever, besides the fact he missed his sister. Eclipse couldn’t stay in one spot for long, his spirit pulling him to somewhere else. He had to leave his sister behind. Winter liked their new home and decided to stay in Saddle Creek. The male was fond of the little town too, but he was itching to move on. So the sibling whom he loved more than anything else in the world stayed. It’s funny how one’s spirit can tear them away from the most precious thing in their life. Eclipse knew they’d cross paths another day. He’d come back to this lovely town and find Winter waiting for him, happy as ever to see him. But, the thought of her sent a pang of sadness in his heart. So, the well-muscled German Shepherd shook it off and continued walking towards the edge of town. In his mouth hung the limp body of a rabbit, a prize well fought for. It took him a while to catch it, dashing through the meadow in a wild chase. But finally, Eclipse killed the morsel for a snack for the road. The juicy meat flavor danced across his tongue and drool dripped out the side of his black maw. The thought of tearing apart the tender flesh had Eclipse’s mind spinning. But he knew he’d have to save it for the journey ahead because no stray could plan their next meal.
As his pads hit the ground below, Eclipse kept himself alert. The fall zephyr blew nicely and ruffled his black fur, offering a cool down from the sun’s heat. This travel might just end up being a good one. He thought to himself as the steady strides carried him onward. For some strange reason, the surrounding area was silent. Silent enough to arouse his suspicions. The large jet black furred shepherd turned his head to gaze at the terrain. Fur bristled and he felt his jaws clamp tighter on his meal. Eclipse was ready for some low mannered brutes to pass by, only to drop in and take his morsel. Brows furrowing, he gazed around again but nothing moved, except for the creek whose waters continued to flow in a rhythmic manner. With the trickling sounds setting his mind to peace, Eclipse carried on walking, slipping back into thought as his follicles lay flat once again. Then, something unexpected erupted into the air. A lonesome sad howl broke the silence. Ears erect, Eclipse tried to locate the source, for her was curious. The howl sounded like one from a smaller dog, female, who was sad. Eclipse cocked his head to the side, jaw loosening almost to the point where he would drop the kill. Picking up speed, the young male trotted around to where he thought the noise was coming from. It was his natural instinct to help and dog in trouble, for that was the kind of guy was.
Soon, a small shape appeared over the horizon, stalking closer, Eclipse let his cocoa pools scan her frame, absorbing every detail. The femme seemed to wear a…. hat, was it? Something sat upon her head and Eclipse thought she looked quite silly from afar. But the lighthearted goodness seemed to escape him as he drew nearer, she appeared to be crying. She muttered something in a soft voice, a question to someone who wasn’t there. Many ideas raced through his mind as to why she was alone and crying. He lowered his head to about chest level, letting the meal drop to the ground as his jaws opened into a yawn. The limp body landed with a thud and Eclipse flinched, hoping the little one wouldn’t take notice. But she did. Eclipse snapped his jaws around the soft furred rabbit and dashed for the nearest shelter, in not a graceful way so he ended up making more noise. But the large black dog hid behind the nearest rock, praying she could not see his rear and tail sticking out. It was awful being this large. He peeked around the cover and saw her laying back down. Trying to be quiet, Eclipse stood up and snuck out from his rock cover, only to stub his paw on a rock. Pain jolted through his paw and lower leg like an electric shock and he let out a soft whine, squeezing his eyes shut and trying not to let out a howl. That was it, his cover was blown and she’d see him as a stalker rather than someone who just wanted to help and needed time to go up and comfort her. But this time he crept back behind it, nice and slow and cautiously careful. He heard her voice from behind his tiny shelter.
Gaining courage to go up, Eclipse padded up slowly. His head was lowered to about chest level with his ebony furred tail not quite tucked in between his legs but lowered to a great extent. This gave him a wolf like appearance but if you were dog and read body language, you could tell he was saying he meant to harm but if he need to be aggressive, he would be. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you. I don’t want any food or anything….” Eclipse barked, stopping to notice her ribs sticking out. " “In fact, I have some food and it’s too big of a meal for me to eat on my own. Would you like some?” The German Shepherd made a polite gesture to the little lady. His appearance said one thing, a big brute who didn’t care about anything, but his eyes were soft with kindness and his voice was manly but friendly. He looked completely sincere, no tricks were up his sleeve.

Screaming, she shot up and looked at the male. Whimpering, she held her injured paw in the air, and gulped. What was with all the big dogs?!?! Wasn't there one small dog .. Honestly .. she whimpered and pawed at him with her injured paw. She knew she would be dead within the minute if he attacked. Slowly, she stepped back and whimpered. She really needed Vaughn. Without a hero .. she would die, from someone.
"You big dogs always want something .. even if it just to pick on me for being the only small dog. Please leave me alone .. I'm just wanting my friend back .. I promise Il-" she was cut off, flicking her ears, she looked at him with scared hazel eyes. He was offering her a meal .. but why? He was sure big enough for it .. she looked down at it, then back up at him. "W-Why are you offering me .. I - I'm sure you can eat it all .. I don't want to take someone elses meal .. I know what it feels like to have the whole thing stolen .. I don't want to take even a bit." she said. Her hazel brown eyes turned back to the trail and she sighed.
"Besides .. I refuse to eat without knowing hes safe .." she whispered

"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to frighten you, miss." Eclipse seemed to shrink back, almost shortening in size. His face held a crestfallen look and he tried to keep a frown from being slung across his obsidian furred face. The stranger didn't speak with a angered voice but Eclipse felt as if her tone was. Most females would be glad by now... especially since he was offering a meal but... this one seemed different. Couldn't she tell he was just trying to help? Didn't she see he wasn't like the other tough brutes who did what they wanted, like he was actually the good guy? What was a part of her past that pained her so much now. Eclipse was curious, wanting to delve deeper, but he held his tongue about the situation and began to slowly backtrack, each paw landing behind the other as he leisurely stepped backwards, giving a greater distance between him and the femme.
Then he noticed something. The little lass was favoring one of her paws and as his eyes glimpsed closer, the cocoa pools spotted a wound. Her paw was injured. The large shepherd dismissed the detail for now, knowing that if he stared at it or mentioned it, that might make her self-conscious. "I'm not picking on you, miss." There it was. Eclipse kept on talking with a polite tone, always referring to the lady as 'miss'. He was taught by his mother to do that, keeping respect to all those who deserve it. Maybe being too good was what was scaring her. He almost didn't seem real, more like a dream because well... Eclipse was acting too nice.
Whatever. Eclipse sighed and straightened his posture, looking more dignified and less scared. He turned his head to glance back at the rock, letting his eyes follow the curved edges of the shape. Trotting back over to it, he picked the limp body back up with tight jaws. The morsel's body temperature lowered, for it had been dead longer now. But the sweet juices of meat flavor danced across his taste buds and he had to fight the impulse to gulp the rabbit down in one swift movement. Letting his grip loosen, he dropped the rabbit right in front of the stranger, before backing off again. "I just thought you needed this more than I did. Eat it if you wish, but I will be on my way now." Eclipse spoke with a more hardened voice, but it was still laced with empathy and kindness towards the Schnauzer. He realized that he seemed too friendly and that was unnatural. He remembered Winter who fussed over his personality, saying he needed to toughen up.
Giving the lass a quick nod, the German shepherd turned away and slowly began to pad off.

Whimpering, she watched as Eclipse sat down the prey. She pawed at it then looked at him. Forgetting about the meal, she limped after him, her hazel brown eyes scared. She didn't want him to leave .. something about this male seemed comforting, what? She wasn't sure. But he just seemed like one of those people you want to keep close.
"P-Please come back .. I didn't mean for you to leave .. I need some company. My only friend left Saddle Creek .. I have no one" she woofed as she stopped from her paw aching. Sighing, the young female sat down and shook her head. She lay down, and shut her eyes wincing in pain. You could hear her stomach grumble, and could see the paw was infected. However, she tried to ignore both. She needed to know that Vaughn was safe before anything. He was her hero, and without him she was lost.
"I - Ill eat some of the meal .. but only if you stay and share .. otherwise I would feel like I stole it. she said, slowly opening her hazel brown eyes. She looked at him, her eyes almost begging. She was calling out for a friend, anyone at this point she would take. She needed a hero .. sense her hero went missing.
Her tiny legs stood as she wobbled and looked at him "I just need a friend .. I'm so lost .. My best and only friend V-Vaughn went missing. With out a hero .. I'm gonna die. He was the only thing keeping me alive. Please .. Please help me" she begged him as she whimpered and shook her head. She felt so foolish, but she wasn't sure on what to do now that Vaughn was gone. "My name is Amaia .. wh-whats yours?" she asked in a shaky tone. She was terrified he would lash out at her, for her lashing out at him and then begging for help and comfort.

His well trained ears picked up the soft thud of his paws hitting the rocky soil as the shepherd began to depart. The soft crunching of earthy material was the only thing that kept the world from disappearing into silence. That was until softer crunches followed his own. Halting abruptly, the canine rotated his head to look behind him. Dark gentle eyes rested upon the small shape of the lass he recently met. He saw her favoring the injured paw again. Who knew how infected it had become now. Like the sensitive guy he was, Eclipse felt concerned for any dog and he wanted to help them out.
The large dog's eyes trailed off until they reached her eyes, letting them lock onto her gaze. What beautiful eyes. The silver furred Schnauzer's orbs were a gorgeous hazel, like a mix between an olive green and an light cocoa. Almost lost in the void, the sound of her pleading voice snapped the German Shepherd back into reality. She was alone? Eclipse's gaze softened and his lips curled into a sad smile. This was making him miss his dearest sibling even more... the little lady was opening his eyes to see that being alone wasn't so fun. Maybe they could... be friends. The Schnauzer could keep him company and he, in return, could guard her from any harm. She seemed so innocent, so naive, like a baby.
"I am sorry about your friend. I lost mine too." He spoke, eyes staring at the ground as his smile curved downwards into a small frown. But what was he thinking? Pitying himself rather than her. For heaven's sake, her ribs were practically breaking through her skin and her paw was a major health concern. He heaved a sigh and turned his body around so he completely faced her. Neck muscles felt sore and stiff from the position he held.
"Good. You need something to eat and you will eat most of it. You need to eat or..." Eclipse started to sound like a nagging mother so he let his vocals fade out. The other reason for silencing himself was that he didn'thave the nerve to finish the sentence. Knowing she would die if she didn't get the nutrients she needed, Eclipse took it upon himself to help her now. He watched her, closing her eyes from the pain. He could feel his heart inside feel like it was tearing itself apart. Sympathy, dear sympathy, was starting to make the tough looking canine break down. Why did this world have to be so cruel to the nicest. Serious girl moment there. Some might consider Eclipse feminine because of his sensitivity and kindness. That was why the darker male only let his feelings show to the right dogs. This one, for example. Other times, he would act like some arrogant brute.
Then, he heard her plea. So she also knew she was going to die. In his mind, Eclipse cursed the name of this Vaughn. If he made it his duty to care for her in this dog eat dog world, why couldn't he carry the duties out. Why did he just abandon her? Why was Eclipse thinking of this dog like a little sister when he had just met her? It could have been her innocent charm, her helplessness, or maybe it was just Eclipse. "It's okay, I'll look after you. You aren't going to die, not if I can help it." That was his new goal, to help her live. Trotting past her, Eclipse picked the rabbit up, a scrap for him but, a gourmet meal to her. He could feel the tender meat in his mouth and taste the meat. But his stomach was perfectly full. So, he walked back over to her and dropped it at her feet. What a strange dog. First, she snapped at him and now she was practically groveling at his feet. He did not take it to offensed and dismissed the thought quickly. "It's nice to meet you, Amaia. My name is Eclipse."

Being that Eclipse was much taller then her, she let her eyes trail up and look him straight in his dark chocolate eyes. He must think her stupid, snapping at him, then begging for help. What kind of fool was she? Honestly, she knew she was a big one.. though, she didn't know how to end being foolish.
She whimpered and then blinked. What on earth? This male, just lowered himself and starred into her eyes. Didn't say a word, just starred. Gulping, she backed up feeling intimidate by this male. Then again, she was intimidated by a rabbit, but this was just awkward in all ways.
Finally he spoke, and his words came out in a loud boom which startled her. She stumbled back and landed on her butt as she stared up at him, Vaughn had a southern accent this .. this was just a loud voice. She wasn't use to it, then again she didn't talk to a lot of people.. Listening to him, her ears lay to her skull and she pawed his chest
"I'm so sorry, your friend will return. I promise. But my friend will return hopefully.. but im not sure"
She whispered with a rather weak smile. She then watched him and tilted her head slightly as he trailed off. Wh- why did he. Oh now she understood. Nodding her head, she looked at the ground. She hated that thought, but dreaded that it was a true fact. When he brought over the meal, she put her paw on half of it, then looked at him. He probably had the sharper claws, so she was signaling for him to slice it in half.
When the words 'Its ok ill look after you now' came out of his mouth, she looked at him with sad eyes. Wa-was he trying to replace Vaughn.. would he be able to do what Vaughn did? Make her laugh and protect her? She hopped so. But she was scared to take in a new guardian.. she took in Vaughn and he left. Would Eclipse too? He was making a awful big promise .. she looked at him with sad but thankful eyes and nodded
"Th-Thank you sir.. you really do not know how much this means to me, your name. I-Its fits you Eclipse black as night right?"
Amaia said with a weak smile..
