Appearance:
Shuck is a large beast of monstrous proportions. He stands twenty seven inches at the shoulder and weighs in at a hefty one hundred and thirty pounds. Shuck's strong body hints at his schipperke heritage while his neck is broad like that of a mastiff. The male's snout is long and strong, with a fox's tapered smile at the end. His jaws are powerful, an homage to his tibetan ancestors. Shuck's ears are round triangles which hang down beside his head. He boasts a small stub of a tail which wiggles furiously when he is excited. Shuck moves with a confident trotting gait, more often than not at a leisurely, unhurried pace. The aging mutt is covered from head to toe in a thick black double coat which becomes thinner around his face and ears. the fur grows long and feathery at the edges of his chest, belly, and hindquarters. In the center of his face are two smoldering orbs of crimson.

Personality:
Black Shuck isn't quite what you would expect from a battle-hardened old man. In spite of his sinister appearance, he has a deep hatred for evil. shuck does not suffer bullies, terrorists, or hellions. He will not hesitate to put them in their place, or better yet, wipe them from the face of the earth. Shuck does have a rather large heart, but likes to keep that information to himself. He loves with a passion that digs deep into his very soul. He is capable of being an exceptionally caring individual when he lets down his guard. Shuck believes in doing what is right, regardless of how difficult that may be. He tries his best to be better than what he was born to be and enjoys seeing good, innocent people that live honorable lives.

Shuck is a fairly social canine, mostly because he dislikes being alone for too long. He seeks out those that appear to be easy going, for shuck doesn't know quite how to deal with drama. Once he decides he likes someone enough to call them a friend, Shuck will put his life on the line should they come to any danger. One of his largest weaknesses is his self-sacrificing attitude; Shuck would sooner leap off a cliff than allow a single scratch to come to someone he cares for. He hardly ever holds a grudge, and usually blames himself for any transgressions. This elder thoroughly enjoys being respected and listened to by others.

Shuck is willful, and at times stubborn. He is quick to anger and has the capacity to be very violent. Rudeness is one thing shuck refuses to tolerate, even though he frequently uses profanity. Adolescents especially seem to get on his nerves. Shuck makes decisions spur of the moment and cannot be swayed once he makes up his mind.

History:
Two male pups were born within the shelter of a barn during one of the worst snow storms of the decade. The larger of the two was to be named Black Shuck, the other, Barghest. The two pups were adopted and grew up together on a large cemetery on the border of a rural village. They patrolled the cemetery by moonlight, guarding against grave robbers, animals, and all other intruders. They were rambunctious adolescents, always getting into trouble. One night the two discovered a hole underneath the cemetery fence where they could just squeeze through. The two hounds took to the countryside, wrecking havoc everywhere they went. For many nights after that one they terrorized the village and killed livestock. It didn't take long for the humans to discover the culprits, and their justice was swift. Sheep killers could not be allowed to live. The brothers were able to narrowly avoid death by gunshot wound, although Shuck's tail was blown to smithereens. Still, it was a small price to pay for freedom.

Shuck and Barghest took to the hills and ran as far from the village as they could manage. Eventually in their travels they met a female border collie named Belladonna. The two males were smitten almost immediately with the beautiful dog. They competed for her affections and in the end Shuck won her heart. The two settled down in a makeshift den and were happy for a time. But that happiness was doomed from the start. Barghest was fuming with jealousy, both jealous of Shuck for getting the girl and jealous of Belladonna for taking Shuck away from him. The anger ate away at him until he snapped, murdering Belladonna while Shuck was away looking for food. When the red-eyed dog returned, he was greeted with an empty den smelling of blood. He followed the trail until he found his brother dragging the carcass of his pregnant mate into the river. Enraged, Shuck charged Barghest and attacked him with all the savagery he could muster. But he was no murderer, and he let his brother live.

Two years have passed since that day, and Shuck has moved on with his life and migrated to Saddle Creek. Where his story goes from here is anyone's guess.
