he is not very talkative to other dogs because he thinks they can't see him unless they are 'dead' or a reaper too. if you confront him, saying that you are a reaper, he will talk to you and easily be able to talk to you because you can 'see him in his true form' sort of thing. he was dropped as a pup.

- - - - mother's name, unknown
- - - - siblings, unknown
- - - - non-blood family, impossible if you ask him
- - - - overall history,
his side of the story the truth
anubis was born into a normal stray family, learned the ropes at a young age, but got a hardened shell when his parents were slaughtered infront of him. after living his life a full one, he was hit by a semi-truck. thrown thirty yards down the road, earning him a large patch of road rash from the extra ten foot skid. he was barely alive at that point. he died shortly afterwards, the semi not stopping to see if it was alive, but was kind enough not to crush his head with the many rows of tires it bared. the truck did stop and scoop up the unconscious dog into the truck to see the vet in the nearest town, saddle-creek.
after dying and being thrown down under, he was confronted by Death himself. curious as to why the man himself would even take a glance at him, he waited to see what would happen. Death grinned wickedly, his long face was shielded by a bone mask, fitting his face perfectly. pearly white teeth glinted in the firelight as Death drew and slashed a claw mark across anubis' white chest. three perfect, jagged lines deep enough to draw blood but none came. now anubis was sure he was dead. Death muttered a few words, then dug his claws back into the marks he had just created. they disappeared instantly, then the world faded back to the place of his death, his bloody body laying on the asphalt. that so called 'Death' figure was merely the vet bandaging him up and putting him with the rest of the stray, recovering dogs. many were bloody and one looked a lot like him.
he took a look at his ghostly opac paws, then back at his body only to see Death looking the same ghostly way. staring into one another's eyes, anubis was informed of his job and was whisked off to his first victim. the world around him looked like it was spinning, but anubis and death were in the same spot until it stopped, only to see two dogs, both bloody and beaten but one was struggling much more then the other. it only took a few seconds for the weak one to fall into a heap of itself, blood pooling from under its mangled body. after he was released, he saw two dogs in a fight but didn't stay long enough to see what really happened.
its soul lifted so quick, a flash of white light erupted from the dead body but clearly the winner, who was still alive, didn't see it as he walked off with a chunk of butchered meat. anubis looked at the soul, the soul back at him. after a long moment, the dog started to ask questions. anubis had no clue what to do, and when he looked back, Death was no more. suddenly, he stepped forwards, as if pushed by an unseen force to touch the dog in the chest with his red nose.
the soul flashed once more but this time anubis was able to take the intensity of the light. after it burnt out, the soul was gone and anubis was left alone to wander the ghost town of saddle-creek until whisked away to claim yet another soul. he has just been on the wrong side of town where canines are scarce.
