Name: Niamh
Age: 4 years
Breed: Native American Dog
Gender: Female
Appearance: Niamh has a short, dense white and black splotched coat, the under layer being wind and waterproof, whilst the top serves as a protector from the temperature. She has a broad head, wide between the eyes with an angular shaped head tapering down to a slender muzzle. Her eyes are almond shape, with light golden orbs, with a intelligent sparkle. Her ears are upright and prick, always on alert. She has a long tail with a slight kink on the end. Niamh is also very leggy, reaching up to 33 in. to the shoulder. weighs around 116 Ibs, Niamh making her rather agile. (word count: 103)
Personality: Niamh is rather restless, she always has to keep moving, standing in one place for too long drives her crazy. She loves the outdoors, like any dog, she'd rather face the elements then sit by a cozy fire. Niamh was very obedient to humans, learning many tricks when her humans were still around(sit, lay down, shake, blah blah). She is very full of longing, having a tough time leaving the past in the past, dreaming of when her humans will come and get her. She knows it won't happen, but isn't afraid to bite back if the topic is brought up. Niamh is very loving, having the human children cling to her and tug on her ears and tail daily. Niamh is however, very cynical and sarcastic, acting a lot older then she should. But the upside, she's very wise, an old soul if you will; even for her young age she's a no-nonsense type of dog. Niamh is very laid back (lazy), although she likes to be in charge, she's rather observe and let someone else deal with a problem then actually do it herself. (word count: 187)
History: Niamh grew up on a farm in northern Oklahoma like most others, there were cattle, horses, chickens, pigs, and even a few sheep. She use to travel alongside the horses on the cattle drives from their farm to the slaughter houses, fending off predators. But given that didn't happen everyday, Niamh was mainly a family dog, allowing children to climb on top of her and scream in her ears. She was purchased from a puppy mill, having been deemed not cute enough to sell. The father of the family she lived with was friends with the puppy mill runner, when he saw her it was love at first sight. He payed 50 dollars for her and took her home. The mother wasn't enthusiastic at first, having just had a baby, and now a puppy to look after. A month into the family, the mother, father, new baby boy had all gotten along rather well with her, mainly because she spent most of her nights outside, but she was so relaxed that she didn't cause problems. Niamh started her training when she was 2 years old, the horses scared her at first' they were big and powerful, their hooves could crush her at any second, but they were calm with her around, so as long as she didn't get too close and kept her teeth to herself. The family was successful enough, their ranch was rather large and well off, having a few cash crops and fruits/vegetables here and there. When the dust storms began, their cattle started dying off, mainly of starvation. They one by one sold their horses to pay for the food, but it wasn't enough. The cattle were their main source of income, so they sold all the animals they could. When they ran out of their ranch animals, they turned to her. She had a nice coat and an endearing personality (to humans), they new she'd fetch a pretty penny. They sold her to a rich family out in Boston; the night she was to leave with her new families driver (who was sent to pick her up, the family didn't feel it necessary to make the journey themselves). A rather nasty storm swept across the plains that night, causing the car driver to crash. Whether the driver made it or not was unknown to Niamh, but she was able to escape from the missing door. She ran back to her home, only to discover that they were gone, the few cattle they left were skinny and sick, only going to last a few more days. She wanted to stay and wait for them, but after four months of doing so, she was forced to leave to get food, not trusting the cattle carcasses that was infested with rattlesnakes. She left with an uncertain future, traveling to the small southern Colorado town she now calls home. (word count: 481)
