The stench of rotting wood filled her nose, making her crinkle it up in disgust as she traveled alongside the river. Rebecca had been traveling alongside the river for days. She had hoped it would lead her to a town, sense normally humans would build their civilizations close to their most needed resources. She also didn't want to lose her only water source and the chance that she could run into her type of prey. Her stubby legs were beginning to ache, the could only carry her so far and for so long, this was the ending point. She could thank her lucky stars it was by a structure, although a crumbling one.
She moved toward the old mill, the wood barely hanging from it's hinges. Carefully, she crawled around it, moving towards a shady spot to escape the sun's glare. She panted, trying to regain some coolness in her blood. Rebecca couldn't complain though, the scenery was beautiful and she'd run into so many old and new plants that brought her hope of a future full of adventure and peace, where as the old gave her all the great old memories when she use to travel alongside her owner, mastering the terrain even in her small stature. How she wished it could be like that again, even if she knew never to look in the past and keep moving forward, it wasn't enough to hope that she'd feel freedom like that again.
Shaking some excesses dirt and sand off her head and neck, Rebecca rested her head on her paws, watching the water trickle down stream. Not only was Rebecca happy that she might actually have a future here, she was also very fortunate to have not run into any dogs, big dogs in particular. Although she knew it was wrong to judge every dog because of their size, Rebecca was beaten into a shell of fear and submissiveness.
