nova has mild post dramatic stress disorder, mild meaning her symptoms don't occur as often and as severe as opposed to one with severe ptsd. this disorder disturbs daily activities with flashbacks, nightmares which always include vivid images as well as emotional distress and physical pain in which relate to those she encountered during her attack. also strong reactions can be caused by actions by others which remind her of the past experiences. as a result of her painful history, nova avoids social life as much as possible for the fear of letting anyone down considering she often feels numb, as if she cares about nothing, detached from society around her, as well as undetectable mood swings making t hard for anyone to read her facial expression to know whether the german shepherd being serious or just joking around, for these reasons nova believes she has no future other than one of a lonely life. in addition nova suffers from hyperarousal which is basically hypervigilance making her often look around for danger in which she thinks is there, the inability to concentrate on conversations, or any activity she takes action in, and insomnia, which makes falling asleep and staying asleep merely impossible. extreme paranoia, or the thought or feeling that someone is around and / or watching is also implied which often causes her dizziness leading to feeling her heart beat in her chest. often times, in tense arguments or emotional climaxes the female finds herself taking a timeout to catch her breath for she gets easily overwhelmed and feels as if she can no longer think or speak correctly.
ignoring her negative side effects and turning the stone to her actual side which is found after taking time to let her really warm up, though since her disorder is very weak, it does not take long at all. nov thinks about the well being of others before that of herself and hates when any action she takes bothers someone the girl will do her best to restrict those specific actions. also, she is very calm, laid back and mellow when she feels safe, sound, and secure which is rare, but possible. after what she encountered throughout her short life, never again does she want to have to make decisions ever again matter how important they are, she will avoid them as much as possible, but those unavoidable are tamed with silence, or the random disappearance of nova all together. however something good did come out of all she's been through not only is her ability to run outstanding, but she taught herself how to hide and fight to protect herself from possible attack. her fear of heights is absolutely ridiculous, too, and her hunting is forbidden, seeing a chase or activating herself reminds her of the one she was victimized in, therefore she is a vegetarian unless she can scavenge or have someone hunt for her which almost never happens considering e would feel as if it was only a burden to that other canine.

A sliver of ruby light shined through the dirty window, casting a glow upon all five of the canines in the room. At first they seemed to be a happy little family, all of them including Juno, who was the mother of the small litter, Nova, the last born as well as the smallest, Bellatrix, the most beautiful of the litter, Sirius, the largest of them all, and Orion who was average for a german shepherd dog. They lived in Russia with a young woman who decided to start her luck in breeding a series of breeds for a living. German shepherds being the most popular even though Juno was not for breeding but rather a pet. It had all happened by accident, the pregnancy unaccounted for until she began to swell, which instantly gave away her dirty little secret. Juno had been in a relationship with the enemy, a booming kennel across the block, who raised blue blooded german shepherds as well as a handful of others. They were called Capella Shepherds and they were the ruling business in Russia as far as pets went. It was not an accident in the minds of the canines themselves, they had snuck out to be together and had planned the whole thing. Maria, the owner of Juno as well as Landers Peak Breeds, merely shoved aside the issue that was puppies, she’d merely sell them off to well known customers which had been begging for pups of the champion Juno. Now was the only chance, at three months old, and it was the perfect time to ship them off to places around the country. According to Juno, the plan had been dismissed.
Being the only kennel with the light switched on, just so Maria could see, it obviously drew attention, all the way to Capella Breeds where Drave, the father, knew exactly what was happening, and he didn’t like it. At all. With his massive size and strength, the male drew himself through the wire fencing, creating a gaping hole which he wasted no time slipping through. Wandering through the neighborhood at the pace of a bullet, he dove into the kennel of his kin, snarling and snapping, terrifying the girl who began to back away making clicking noises with her tongue. Running to the telephone, Maria dialed the only one she knew to handle the situation, Capella Breeds. Though it was the absolute last thing she wanted to resort to, it was her only option because she knew the snarling male with his black sable coat which glimmered in the swaying light above. It didn’t take long for him to arrive, a gun in his hand. Though he had only expected to capture Drave once he made it to the kennel, he was proven wrong. Now all of the dogs in the tiny wooden structure had begun to pace, growling, eyes narrowed, and jaws snapping. They weren’t going anywhere without a fight which was exactly what they got. Nova, being the smallest, avoided any contact with them by lodging herself in a corner. She watched as the unknown man cocked the gun and aimed, right at her mother, and shot a bullet into her shoulder which set her off into a series of whimpers as she paced, looking around nervously as Drave did the same. Instinctively, without parents to protect them from these people, the pups whimpered, dropping to the ground with fear. It was much easier for the two humans, one older than the other, to scoop them up, not wanting to risk any further attacks in keeping them here. Attacks would mean certain death for the pups, and their parents who had begun to doze, each curled into each other in the far corner. Waiting for the drugs to wear in, the two carried the pups inside.
Maria made a few phone calls to plan the trip to America where a good friend lived and would train them: a practical rehabilitation center for all of them. Neither one of them wanted to risk the safety of their own pets, who had been convinced to wobble into a cage which they wasted no time in shutting gently behind them. Tears were shed by both of the humans, though they knew that they would hopefully be back soon, and it was just a parental phase. Nova kept her eyes closed the whole time, waiting patiently as she felt herself being lifted into the air and felt Bellatrix shaking on the opposite side, avoiding any contact with her sibling. Nova had never seemed to please her relatives, especially Bella who had always seemed to think higher of herself. Ignoring her sister's self established ranking and staring ahead as she was loaded into a port, a cool room which was filled with boxes of what smelled like food, as well as two other cages full of her family members. Mostly they all slept for the trip, but when she awoke everyone else was either dozing or pacing like mad. There were no humans anywhere in sight or any other canines, for that matter. It was a considerably long plane ride, which seemed to last even longer than it should, because she was awake most of the time. Nothing to do besides watch the rest of them sleep. When they got there, she had begun to feel a bit nausious, wobbling on her feet and stumbling when she was finally allowed to wander out of the cage in a small fenced in area with her other three siblings who instantly took to the grass, rolling around and enjoying the fresh air they hadn't seen in so many hours. All Nova herself wanted to do was find Maria who had always been so kind, she loved to play and always carried such delicious treats in her bag. The girl here though, who she quickly picked up as Sarah, was much different.
This lady was older, with grey hairs poking out of the pony tail she always wore low on her neck, and instead of treats, she carried a whip. It did not take long for her to use it either. Anything they did wrong was discriminated, and they were punished severely even though they hadn't been the problem in the first place. It was their parents fault for revolting. Speaking of the only adults she had ever grown attached to, they were no where in sight, though their scent was always present, coating over the elderly human. Eventually, they could wander around the property, passing kennel after kennel of barking, savage beasts, including Juno and Drave. Often times Nova would keep venturing deeper and deeper into the property, not phased by the dogs lunging in her direction, because there was always the electric fence to keep them away. Her siblings found it more amusing to just attempt to make a conversation with their parents who had changed over the couple weeks they had been apart. Nova had finished loving them, she wanted to go home but it seemed as if they were never going to get there. The punishments got harsher, the time they got to wander was limited and the food? Terrible. Sometimes the gates to another wing of the rehabilitation center would be left wide open which the female pup took as a calling, there was the youth center full of pups who were bouncing around like they were physchotic, and then another section was full of canines who just seemed...off. They sat there, staring at her like a meal, which was exactly why she preferred not to go there. The last wing was almost always kept shut, a large lock keeping it secure, but as she started coming by more often, she found it open a lot more than usual. It was unmarked, therefore she thought perhaps it was those who would be soon sent home because they were past recovery. In one way she was correct, they were past recovery, but they were going downhill instead of reaching the top. Nosing her way in one day, eyes wandering through the kennels which were practically empty to her knowledge. Unlike the part they were located in, these wired fences went so much higher, and each one had a box big enough for a horse to fit in, an opening just big enough for a large dog on one side. All of them seemed vacant, except one which had a paw sticking out, green orbs glowing from inside. Basic youth curiosity got the best of her, therefore she could not help putting her face up to the fence being careful not to touch the wired gate.
There she sat, staring inside the basic construction, trying to make out any figure or body. Maybe even a robot? Anything, just as long as she knew what it was. Though apparently there had been no need for her to stare absent-mindingly glaring at the box. A large, young male dog slowly made his way out as if not to scare her, which wouldn't have happened in the first place. By now she had gotten used to being lurched at. In fact, she had started growling back, but not this time, this male was exquisite, covered in scars from head to toe of black fur which was short and stickery. However, it was his size that got to her, he was so big, tall, muscled and handsome. It was also amazing to her how such a young dog could have so many scars which were illuminated in the sunlight that had began to shine above them. With a short, slow introduction, she soon learned his name was Cato and he was only there for boarding, or so he said. However, his humans had not returned on time to pick him up so he was stuck there. Nova was hooked now, she listened to him speak, remembering every word for he told her how to get into this wing without being caught, or electrocuted. Of course she used this information to visit him every night, and eventually she figured out a way all on her own how to slip into his cage, it was extremely difficult but it worked after a little time. After weeks of being there with him, she started falling, but it was a good fall. The drop of love that was brewing between the two. Both around ten months old already. They planned on finding each other, if they ever got out, but once they thought about it, the odds of them getting to the same place at the same time were slim, in fact, they were near impossible. So they shifted their plans to that of escape. Escape they did, it was not even that difficult to slip over the gates which somehow Cato had known were turned off at night. How he had known? Nova wasn't even sure she wanted to know. All she cared about was the freedom that now became her own as well as his.
Instantly they found shelter in a warehouse which was practically vacant besides the occasional electrician or the owner of the building who was only ever there for a few moments to check over things. By the time they were a year old, all insecurities involving Cato had left her, she was sure she wanted to be with him forever which was exactly what he had wanted all along, her absolute devotion to him. It was unrecyleable, the cue he needed to unleash his inner self of violence and lust, as well as his real history. Cato was the product of a puppy mill, rescued from inbreeding, experimented on until all the chemicals in his body drove him physically insane. This insanity was taken out on the humans who had loved him dearly, paid his vet bills to treat this which were absolutely ridiculous, and their children who played with him to keep him entertained. The amount of energy he had at all times had been extraordinary which meant he was captivated outside before he murdered them all in a violent reaction to the medications which came in sudden bursts; never as bad as the one that finally killed. After that he had been locked up in the unsalvageable wing, but he would not be killed. It was not what Sarah had been asked to do, which was why he was locked in a center by himself. Nova had brought him the first real contact he'd had in the year he'd been in the rehabilitation center, which meant he'd been lying about his age as well, Cato was already four years old and had killed seven humans and five canines, injuring so many others and planning to kill much more than one would ever imagine. However he had never been able to latch his jaws onto any of him victims until now. The top of his hit list? Nova. Even though he'd loved her from the start, the emotion was truly restricted for him, it was sick and he would not allow it. So the only way he saw to save himself? Kill her. It was not hard to see, he had the devil captured in his black orbs which reflected her face, stricken with fear as he admitted everything to her. Everything.
At first she was unable to move, but then, she did the only thing she knew how to do, the only thing imaginable to do. Nova ran faster than she ever had before, listening to his snarling, snapping jaws behind her, feeling his body head and the occasional drip of foam which was streaming from his mouth. Dodging every lurch he made for her, before shrinking into the warehouse again, making her way to the roof, the worst decision she made that day. Now she was trapped more than two hundred feet in the air with no where to go but down the stairs which were blocked by a psychotic bull who had death written all throughout his crazed mind. Apologizing over and over again, begging, pleading her love only made his anger swell, the gap between them closing even after she had backed her way all the way to the edge of the building. Already the wait was over, her time had come to a near end as his breath was hot in her face, him towering over her, blocking all moonlight from her vision, all she saw was two green orbs and the few stars that speckled the sky above them. It was too late, there was two ways to leave the world: be murdered or attempt to fly to heaven. Throwing herself off the ledge was the better of the choices, for she first landed with a light thump into a dumpster filled to the brim with garbage bags, cushioning her fall to the better extent, even though her leg was still injured and her body ached. She did not have time to hesitate thought, already she could hear Cato's footsteps echoing through the alley, going down the seven flights of stairs in the warehouse and she did not have much time to leap out and run, ignoring the throbbing sensation which had begun to spread throughout her limbs. For a moment, she thought it was over, she swore he was behind her, jaws so near her ankles that it was uncanny. When she looked over her shoulder though, the alley was completely empty besides the orange tabby cat that hissed at her as she passed. Finally letting out her breath, the female continued to run for a couple miles until she could not go any further, so she just rested herself in a small building, empty in the center of a soulless town which she later learned to call home.
